Returns
What is the return window?
If you are not completely satisfied with your order, you can initiate a return or exchange within 30 days of when your order was shipped unless otherwise noted in a disclaimer for special sale events or final sale. If you are past 30 days, but within a year of the purchase date, and your product is defective, you can return the merchandise for store credit.
Are there any items that are non-returnable?
The Sak accepts returns for items purchased on our website only. The Sak merchandise purchased from outside retailers must be returned to the original point of purchase and is subject to their return policy. International orders purchased on thesak.com are final sale and cannot be returned or exchanged with our current domestic return policy. Unfortunately we are unable to process any refunds or exchanges for product shipped outside of the United States.
How will I receive my refund?
Once we receive your package, please allow 7-10 business days for your return to be processed. You'll receive an email confirmation when your refund has been processed and credited. Refunds will be credited to the original method of payment. Depending on your financial institution, it may require additional days for the refund to post to your account.
Who pays for return shipping?
And because we want you to be 100% happy, we will cover the return shipping cost if our shipping label is used. Original shipping charges are non-refundable.
Editor's Take
So here's the thing about The Sak - it's basically the brand that made crochet handbags cool way before sustainability became everyone's favorite buzzword. Back in 1989, two friends ditched their corporate gigs to travel the world, stumbled upon some incredible artisans in Bali, and thought, "Yeah, we should bring this home." And honestly? That handwoven bag they brought back started something kind of special.
What's interesting is how they've managed to stay relevant for over 30 years in an industry that's notoriously fickle. They're a Certified B Corp now, which means they've committed to meeting pretty rigorous standards for social and environmental performance. Not just greenwashing - actual certification. The company employs around 87 people across three continents, pulling in roughly $35 million in annual revenue as of 2025.
But let's talk about what they actually make. Sure, everyone knows them for those signature crochet bags - the ones with that distinctive handcrafted texture that you can spot from across a room. But they've expanded way beyond that. Clogs, sneakers, leather bags, jewelry, accessories. It's like they took that original craft-focused philosophy and just ran with it. Every piece still has that tactile, artisanal quality, whether it's made from recycled materials or traditional leather.
The pricing sits in that sweet spot where it feels accessible but not cheap - most bags range from $100 to $250. And here's something you don't see much anymore: they actually cover return shipping if you use their label. In 2025, when everyone's nickel-and-diming customers, that's kind of refreshing.
They sell through their own website plus major retailers like Target, Nordstrom, Macy's, and DSW. No physical Sak stores though, which honestly makes sense. Why deal with retail overhead when you can focus on design and let established retailers handle the foot traffic?
One thing that stands out is their TAO philosophy - Trust, Action, Ownership. It sounds like corporate speak, but employees on Glassdoor actually mention it, which suggests it's more than just words on a website. The company has a 3.4 out of 5 star rating there, with people praising the work-life balance and flexibility. Not perfect, but better than a lot of fashion companies.
The founder, Mark Talucci, is still CEO. That kind of longevity is rare. Most brands this age have been bought out, rebranded, or run into the ground by private equity. The Sak just keeps doing its thing - making bags that people actually want to carry, treating employees decently, and trying not to destroy the planet in the process. In an industry full of fast fashion disasters, that's worth something.
