Stock Market Today: Reopening Rebound Hopes Fizzle As Nasdaq, S&P 500 Fall 1%
Thursday, November 13, 2025
Reopening the government is not on the list of things that are making investors feel bullish. Today, the Nasdaq (-1.72%) and S&P 500 (-1.10%) are down, extending a days-long skid in large-cap equities. Even the Dow (-0.8%), which has been a model index for longs the past few days, is off.
What gives? Well, it's once again megacaps dragging down the indexes. Specifically, megacaps of the tech variety: Tesla (-5.7%), Broadcom (-5.4%), and Nvidia (-4%) are all facing some hefty declines today. There's also plenty of other contributing names, including Palantir (-5.5%), Micron (-3.8%) and Oracle (-3.2%), among others.
Although -- unlike in recent days where tech fell while the broader market went higher, the broader market is sharing in today's declines. At midday more than 63% (3,498) of issues are in decline, per FinViz. And with today's move, almost exactly half of U.S. equities are below their 200-Day simple moving averages.
Among the notable exceptions are in the health care and energy sectors, which aren't just seeing a bump in their SPDR-themed Sector fund -- Energy (+0.89%) and Health Care (+0.82%) -- but beyond the S&P 500. That's a theme to watch if indeed the tech rotation is real and sustained.
