Stock Market Today: Nasdaq, S&P 500 Turn Around Early-Day Decline As Tech Stocks Stage Comeback
Friday, November 14, 2025
The government reopening, nerves regarding the Federal Reserve's interest-rate-cut trajectory, and angst about AI-related trades have weighed on U.S. stocks this week. The volatility pushed the CBOE Volatility Index up more than 20% today, to past 23.
But after an anemic start to Friday, U.S. index benchmarks appear to be casting those worries aside. And the VIX is going by the wayside as well.
Around midday the Nasdaq Composite (+0.7%) and S&P 500 (+0.36%) have erased their day losses, thanks to a healthy bump from the very megacap tech stocks that held them back in early trading. The S&P 500's Technology sector (+1.27%) is up, surpassed only by the Energy sector (+1.58%) so far.
Still, more than half of U.S. issues are in decline today; 2,944 (53%) are in the red, which speaks to the breadth issue we've seen across the U.S. markets in recent months. As tech valuations remain a big question, it remains to be seen if the rest of the market can pick up any slack -- or at least join the party.
