Stocks go down, oil goes up after siezure of Iranian cargo vessel

Happy Monday. Oil futures are back up from their Friday lows as the Strait of Hormuz once again effectively closes in the aftermath of the U.S. military's attack on an Iranian cargo vessel Sunday. The ship remains in U.S. custody, and Iran has vowed retaliation. The S&P is down around 0.3% with a little over an hour left in trading, while crude oil futures are up over 5%.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei didn't mince words when he told Fox that AI will replace a large swath of entry-level white-collar jobs in the near future. When asked what industries he supposed would be the hardest hit by this workplace shift, he named finance, consulting, law, and tech, among others, spotlighting research, document review, data analysis, and report preparation as tasks that are likely to be shifted from humans to AI agents.
