Returns

What is the return window?
You may return merchandise purchased online for size, fit or style reasons within 30 days of shipment of your order, provided it has not been damaged, washed, altered or worn.

Do I need a receipt to return an item?
If you do not have proof of purchase, Timberland is happy to evaluate your item for an exchange or store credit. If the item you would like to return is in new condition with original packaging and all tags attached, you may be able to exchange the product for another size, color or style of the same or lesser value at your local Timberland store. However, they cannot guarantee an exchange or in-store credit for items presented without proof of purchase.

Are there any items that are non-returnable?
Gift Cards and eGift Cards are considered final sale and once a card is purchased, that card is not eligible for return.

How will I receive my refund?
Once your return is received and processed, your purchase will be credited to your initial form of payment for the product price plus any applicable taxes. Refunds can only be posted to the credit card used to make the purchase, not to a different credit card. Once Timberland confirms receipt of your return, they'll process your refund within 3-5 business days.

Can I return online purchases in-store?
Orders placed online with PayPal cannot be returned in-store for credit on the original form of payment. The store can provide a gift card, or customers can make returns via the free shipping label.

Editor's Take

You know those yellow boots you see everywhere-from construction sites to fashion runways to hip-hop videos? That's Timberland. And honestly, the brand's journey is kind of wild when you think about it.

The whole thing started in 1973 when the Abington Shoe Company launched the Original Timberland 8-inch Boot. The 6-inch version came three years later, becoming the icon we know today. But here's what's fascinating: despite Timberland building its image around a rugged "New Englander" lifestyle and rural blue collar work, Timberland boots came to have significant value in urban inner cities and Black neighborhoods in the 1980s and 1990s. The boots were taken up by rappers associated with hip hop, starting in the New York hip hop scene, and they soon became an enduring staple of Black, streetwear, and hip hop fashions.

Timberland boots, referred to by consumers as "Timbs" or "Butters", gained the nickname "the Air Jordans of boots" and became "the required footwear of the inner-urban set". Think about that for a second-a boot designed for New England winters became a cultural phenomenon in New York City. Prominent artists who featured them in songs or music videos included Wu-Tang Clan, Mobb Deep, Nas, Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G., Busta Rhymes, DMX, Dipset, Rihanna, Drake, Kanye West, and Jay-Z. That's basically a who's who of hip-hop royalty.

But Timberland isn't just resting on those iconic yellow boots. Today they are one global brand with three distinct categories: Work, Life and Outdoor. So whether you're actually hiking through the wilderness, working a construction job, or just want that rugged aesthetic for your daily commute, they've got you covered.

Timberland LLC is an American manufacturer and retailer of outdoor footwear and apparel owned by VF Corporation. The company's corporate headquarters are located in Stratham, New Hampshire. And they're not just about selling boots-the company's Path of Service program, first established in 1992, allows employees to take up to a week per year of paid leave to engage in local volunteer projects. That's 40 hours of paid time off just to help your community. Not bad.

The sustainability angle is real too. In 2001, Timberland began partnering with international NGOs to plant trees to reverse desertification of farmland and promote the cultivation of vegetables. Its partnership with Japanese NGO Green Network has focused on planting trees in the Horqin Desert of western China. As of 2019, the ongoing partnership had planted 2 million trees. Two million trees-that's not just greenwashing, that's actual impact.

What makes Timberland stick around after all these years? It's probably that they managed to be authentic to multiple audiences without losing their core identity. They make boots that actually work for people who need them to work, but they also understand that style matters. And in a world where brands often have to choose between function and fashion, Timberland somehow nailed both.
