Editor's Take

You know that friend who shows up to every party in the most ridiculously perfect outfit? That's basically Tipsy Elves in company form. Founded in 2011, this holiday-themed apparel company sells holiday sweaters and other holiday-themed items through its website and other online vendors, and donates part of each sale to charity.

But here's the thing-they're not just another clothing brand trying to be quirky. In December 2013, the company's owners appeared on the US television show Shark Tank, and received $100,000 in funding from Robert Herjavec to help the company move into the retail market. And get this: Herjavec has called Tipsy Elves his best performing investment he has made with Shark Tank.

The numbers are pretty wild too. In the first year of sales the company sold over one thousand sweaters reaching about $370,000 in total web sales, and in the following year it reached nearly $1 million in sales. By 2018? The website had reportedly done over $70 million in sales and sold over two million products since its launch.

What makes them different is their approach to seasonal fashion. The Tipsy Elves brand is split between a "naughty" line with more extreme examples of humor, and a "nice" line that features tamer comical designs, however the naughty line sells the best. They've basically turned ugly Christmas sweaters into an art form, but they don't stop there-Halloween costumes, ski suits, patriotic gear, you name it.

And they're not just about making money. Tipsy Elves also runs the charity Sweaters 4 Sweaters, which donates sweaters to children in need using a portion of all the company's profits. In 2013 the company partnered with Stand Up to Cancer, and donated $2 from every sweater to the charity.

The brand has this whole philosophy that's refreshingly honest about what they're doing. They're not trying to revolutionize fashion-they're just trying to make sure you have the most memorable outfit at whatever event you're attending. Whether that's good or bad depends entirely on your tolerance for being the center of attention.
