Race Through Tradition: The Heart O' Dixie Triathlon |
On July 26th, triathletes from across the country will take on one of Mississippi’s most iconic endurance events, the Heart O’ Dixie Triathlon. First held in 1980, it’s the oldest continuously-held triathlon in the continental U.S., and every year it captures the spirit of summer and Southern grit. The race begins with a half-mile swim in the peaceful waters of Lake Tiak O’Khata in Louisville, followed by a challenging 27.5-mile bike ride that winds toward the Hwy 15 & 16 intersection in Philadelphia. But the real test, and triumph, comes in the Mississippi heat, with a 7-mile run that finishes dramatically on the horse racing track at the historic Neshoba County Fairgrounds. |
It’s more than just a race, it’s a tradition. Set against the backdrop of the beloved Neshoba County Fair, where generations gather in family cabins, horse racing thrills the crowd, and summer memories are made, the Heart O’ Dixie is as nostalgic as it is rewarding. |

There’s something timeless about spending a summer morning in a Mississippi field, gathering sun-ripened berries or snipping gorgeous blooms by hand. Across the state, local farms are opening their gates for berry and flower picking, offering visitors a chance to slow down, soak up the sunshine, and take home a little piece of summer. Wander through rows of blooming flowers to create your own bouquet for your home, or fill your basket with berries just waiting to be turned into cobblers, muffins, or even homemade popsicles. Bring family and friends, grab a basket, and make a sweet memory in the heart of Mississippi. |
