Lots to Love — A Month Full of Heart, Music, and Adventure! | | | Hello everyone!
The winter weather in Northeastern Pennsylvania is hard to predict. Sometimes, our winters are practically snow-free. And sometimes, there seems to be snowfall almost every week. This week, it’s been the latter. Skiers — and everyone who loves snow and the change of seasons — are loving it. But for those who prefer to stay inside, there are plenty of great events on tap in February… | | On February 13, Country Music Hall of Famer Marty Stuart and Grammy winner Molly Tuttle will perform at the F.M. Kirby Center. The show will offer an eclectic mix of rockabilly, roots-rock, bluegrass, and plenty of virtuoso guitar playing and twang. On February 19, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top fame will plug in at The Kirby. (Jimi Hendrix once named Gibbons as his favorite guitarist.) Other shows at The Kirby include the New York Bee Gees/Donna Summer tribute on February 21, “Dirty Dancing in Concert” on February 24, and — for fans of Elton John and Billy Joel — Philadelphia Freedom presents “Elton vs. Billy” on February 28. | | At Mohegan Arena, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will hit the ice on February 4, 14, 15, and 21. And the legendary Harlem Globetrotters will make their annual appearance at the arena on February 25. | | Mohegan Pennsylvania casino is always bustling with activity, and this month is no exception. Nationally touring comics will take the stage at Wisecrackers Comedy Club on February 6,7,12,13,14, 20, 21,27 and 28. Shawn Klush, one of the world’s top Elvis Presley tribute artists, will perform in the Keystone Grand Ballroom on February 14. Though he has toured the world, Klush — who once won an Elvis tribute contest officially sanctioned by Graceland — is a native of Northeastern Pennsylvania and is an inductee of the Luzerne County Arts & Entertainment Hall of Fame. And, also at the casino, inside Seasons, fans of Dolly Parton can celebrate all things Dolly with “A Dolly Parton Cocktail Experience” on February 21. | Other events happening this month include “Stained Glass with Randy Lucas,” which will take place on February 7 at the Circle Centre for the Arts and will offer a course on the art of crafting stained glass, from start to finish. The Music Box Dinner Playhouse will present “9 to 5” through February 15, and Penn’s Peak in Jim Thorpe has a few big shows on tap, including Green River, a tribute to John Fogerty and CCR on February 7, and Double Vision, a tribute to Foreigner, on February 28. And the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic will present “Dreams & Klezmer,” a chamber concert, on February 22 at the Sordoni Theater at WVIA Studios. The clarinet and string quartet performance will offer a “soundscape of Jewish mysticism, folk tradition, and dance.” | | Also, be sure to check out the latest edition of Next Stop: The Visit Luzerne County Podcast, where we chat with Tony Brooks, Director & Curator of the Wilkes-Barre Preservation Society, and Mark Riccetti, Director of Operations & Programs at the Luzerne County Historical Society. We discuss the new Visit Luzerne County History Trail, and as we begin to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States, we dive into some of the most significant contributions that Luzerne County has made to our nation.
Enjoy!
