February is traditionally a time of year when people in Luzerne County focus more on indoor activities, and not surprisingly, there are plenty of great choices this month…

The F.M. Kirby Center has 12 events on its schedule, including the New York Bee Gees/Donna Summer tribute show on 2/1 and Greensky Bluegrass on 2/5. Philadelphia Freedom: A Tribute to Elton John rockets into the The Kirby on 2/8 and The Purple Xperience, a tribute to Prince, will bring “Purple Rain” and more into the theater on 2/15. Comedian John Crist brings his nationally touring stand-up show to The Kirby on 2/14 and comedian Jo Koy will deliver the laughs on 2/23. You can also check out Jazz at the Lincoln Center presents The New Orleans Songbook on 2/20 and the legendary Disco Biscuits on 2/27.

Looking for more indoor fun?Mohegan Arena presents comedian Jeff Dunham’s “Artificial Intelligence” tour on 2/20 and the iconic Harlem Globetrotters on 2/23. And the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will be home and on the ice on 2/7, 2/8, 2/14 and 2/15.

Mohegan Pennsylvania casino will also be warm and toasty in February, with comedy shows at Wise Crackers on 2/1, 2/7, 2/8, 2/14, 2/15 and 2/28. You can also catch live music throughout the month at The Hive Taphouse, Breakers and Vine Café & Wine Bar. And The River Street Jazz Café has eight shows on tap this month, including a Grateful Dead-themed show on 2/1, Clarence Spady & The Electric City Band on 2/8, Emo Night on 2/15 and an AC/DC tribute on 2/28.

Looking to get outdoors? Hickory Run State Park is hosting a bird-watching Chirp n’ Chat event on 2/28, where you can learn some identification basics while enjoying the winter views. A limited number of binoculars will be provided, but feel free to bring your own, as well as a hot beverage. You can also breathe in some cool, crisp winter air at Montage Mountain Resorts and enjoy skiing, snowboarding and tubing throughout the entire month.

Of course, February is also synonymous with the big game and Valentine’s Day. Check out the “Eat Like A Local” section of our website. There, you can find plenty of great suggestions on where to grab some pizza and wings for game day, and where to fine dine with your sweetheart on V-Day.
