Put the Petal to the Metal and Plan Your May With Us!

Welcome, May! Weather wise, April can be a bit of a tease in Northeastern Pennsylvania. On any given day, it could be 75 degrees or 30 degrees. But once May rolls in, we know we’ve really turned the corner and are set for straight months of warm days. And what better way to celebrate that than with the 69thannual Fine Arts Fiesta, which will take place on Wilkes-Barre’s Public Square on May 15, 16, 17, and 18. The fiesta features fantastic displays of wonderful art, great food vendors, and plenty of live, eclectic music. Headlining this year’s big Saturday night show is The Badlees. One of the most prolific, accomplished and most celebrated bands to ever launch out of Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania, The Badlees are members of both the Luzerne County Arts & Entertainment Hall of Fame and the Central Pennsylvania Music Hall of Fame. The band has scored national hits, shared the stage with acts such as Robert Plant/Jimmy Page, The Allman Brothers and Bob Seger and yet has always remained true to its Pennsylvania roots.

Live music at Mohegan Pennsylvania also gets a big jolt this month when the casino’s iconic Party on The Patio series kicks off on May 1. Opening the series will be 52ndStreet: A Tribute to Billy Joel, and the over-21 shows will continue every Thursday through September. Music will also fill the fabulous F.M. Kirby Center on May 9 when country superstar Vince Gill takes the stage and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Pat Benatar will hit you with her best shot at The Kirby on May 20. On that same night, May 20, the legendary Alice Cooper – the godfather of shock-rock and also a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame – will bring classic hits such as “School’s Out,” “No More Mr. Nice Guy” and “I’m 18” to Mohegan Arena.

Feeling flowery? The West Pittston Cherry Blossom Festival will help celebrate spring on May 3 and 4 and the Diamond City Flower Show will take place on Public Square in Wilkes-Barre on May 31. The Montage Mountain Spring Wine Fest is set for May 10, and if you’re looking for some family fun for the kids, Paw Patrol Live comes to Mohegan Arena on May 6 and 7. And, if you’d like to head out to the ballpark, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders have 17 home games at PNC Field this month, so there’s plenty of baseball to choose from!
