| On October 12, Visit Luzerne County and the City of Wilkes-Barre will host the inaugural Babe Ruth Sultan of Swat Home Run Derby, at Kirby Park. The event will be held near the exact spot where, in 1926, Babe Ruth hit a 650-ft. home run, which some say is the longest recorded home run in baseball history. All proceeds benefit the Geisinger Children’s Miracle Network/Janet Weis Children’s Hospital, which we know The Babe would have liked. On October 4-6, Abide Coffeehouse presents its second annual Back To The Grind event in downtown Wilkes-Barre, which will feature live music, games, vendors, prizes, and a city-wide scavenger hunt. On October 6, 11, 12, 13, The Pennsylvania Theatre of Performing Arts in Hazleton will present "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical,” which tells the story of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame songwriter and includes her classic songs. Up for more timeless music? Rock Royalty, which performs the music of some of rock’s all-time greatest artists, will perform at the Valley Country Club in Sugarloaf on October 19. And if you need some laughs, the great Howie Mandel brings his legendary stand-up act to Mohegan Pennsylvania on October 18. And we did not forget about Halloween! The Luzerne County Historical Society will host its annual Downtown Wilkes-Barre Ghost Walks on October 18 and 19, where partakers can learn all about some of Wilkes-Barre’s haunted past. Wilkes-Scarre will host several events throughout downtown Wilkes-Barre during Halloween week, and on Halloween night, Mohegan Pennsylvania will host a Haunt at The Hive Halloween costume party that will include prizes for the “Scariest” and “Most Original” costumes, as well as best costume for a “Couple or Group.” Trick or Treat! And Happy October! Alan, Sarah, Kyle, Gaye, and David |
