It’s November! And though we all realize that, as we approach winter,someoutdoor activities tend to be put on ice (no pun intended), we’re very fortunate here in Luzerne County to also be a very events-driven market. And great indoor events happen year-round!

If you’re up for some fast-paced, exciting professional hockey, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins – who actually love the ice – will be at home at Mohegan Arena on November 2, 6, 9, 16, 22, and 29. Coming to the arena on November 19 is the exhilarating Nitro Circus, which will bring a new generation of “gravity-defying thrill-seekers and rule-breakers” to Luzerne County. These top athletes “push the boundaries of what's possible, with jaw-dropping stunts, high-flying tricks, and heart-pounding excitement.” Also on tap at the arena is Sesame Street Live, on November 20, and the annual holiday performance of Trans-Siberian Orchestra on November 24, which is always a fantastic musical and visual experience.

The beautiful F.M. Kirby Center, fresh off some new upgrades and renovations, has 10 events on its November schedule, including the 2024 induction ceremony for the Luzerne County Arts & Entertainment Hall of Fame. The event, which will take place on November 8, will honor some of the region’s most accomplished people in the world of arts and entertainment. On November 9, The Sinatra Years, starring Steve Maglio, comes to The Kirby. The musical tribute to “The Chairman of The Board” and “Ol' Blue Eyes” will feature a 17-piece orchestra. Also at The Kirby is comedy legend Andrew Dice Clay on November 16, the World Ballet Company’s presentation of Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake” on November 17, and longtime Foreigner vocalistLou Gramm - fresh off his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - on November 23.

Need some laughs? Mohegan Pennsylvania has plenty of comedy on its schedule. Wise Crackers comedy club, located inside the casino, will be presenting nationally touring stand-up comics every Friday and Saturday: November 1-2, 8-9,15-16, 22-23 and 29-30. While there, you can also usually catch some live music at Breakers or the Hive Taphouse and harness racing at the track.

Two parades, each steeped in great tradition, occur this month. On November 10, the Wyoming Valley Veterans Day parade will salute our vets and march down Market Street in Kingston and end on Wilkes-Barre’s Public Square. It’s a wonderful way to say “thank you” to those that helped preserve our freedom. And on November 23, Santa Claus comes to town when the City of Wilkes-Barre holds its annual Christmas Parade & Tree-Lighting Ceremony. Also, as we approach the holidays, you can mark your calendars for some of the region’s wonderful holiday light displays: “The Festival of Lights,” located at the Stone Hedge Golf Course in Tunkhannock, will open on November 27 and Knoebels Amusement Resort’s “Drive Through The Grove” will open on November 29. Both displays will remain open through New Year’s Eve.
