Hello everyone!

It’s time for the monthly Visit Luzerne County Newsletter! And as one might expect in the midst of summer, July is packed with great events and plenty of fun things to see and do throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania.

For us here at the Visitors Bureau, July can only mean one thing: Rockin’ The River! The annual summer concert series was first launched by our office in 2019 and will return this month with three great shows! On July 11, it’s ZOSO: The Ultimate Led Zeppelin Experience, with special guests Flaxy Morgan. On July 18, it’s Maybe I’m Amazed: A Tribute to Paul McCartney, with special guests Tori V. & The Karma. Will there be some Beatles classics in the set? Sure! But did you ever wonder why people seem to forget that Wings was one of the biggest bands of the ‘70s, won a bunch of Grammys, and scored 23 Top-40 hits, 14 Top-10 hits, and six No. 1 hits? Well, we didn’t forget. That’s why we booked a McCartney tribute. And mixed in with Beatles favorites, you can expect to hear great songs such as “Band On The Run,” “Silly Love Songs,” and “Live And Let Die.” On July 25, the series wraps up with a high-voltage performance by Halfway to Hell: A Tribute to AC/DC, with special guests Aaron Fink & The Fury. The shows take place at the Millennium Circle at River Common in Wilkes-Barre, and food and drink vendors will be on site. The shows are free and open to all!

In Hazleton, the Rockin’ The Mountain music series continues July 4 with a performance by the Idol Kings, which will offer tribute sets to both Styx and REO Speedwagon. Rockin’ The Mountain is presented by Hazleton Parks & Recreation and takes place at City View Park and also features food and drink vendors. At Mohegan Pennsylvania casino, Party on The Patio rocks on throughout July — every Thursday — with tributes to Elton John, Boston/Styx, Van Halen, and David Bowie.

From July 10- 12, one of Luzerne County’s most iconic annual events returns with the 28th annual Briggs Farm Blues Festival. The festival offers three days of great music, food, vendors, and camping opportunities. Briggs traditionally draws thousands of music enthusiasts, and this year’s event will feature musical performances by 21 different acts! Another great Luzerne County tradition happens on July 12- 13 with the Giants Despair Hill Climb, where you can watch racecars and souped-up stock cars compete for the best times while speeding up one of the region’s steepest inclinations. There will also be food vendors and live music. Visit Luzerne County is a proud sponsor of both the Briggs Farm Blues Festival and Giants Despair Hill Climb.

On July 1, the U.S. Army Field Band will perform at the F.M. Kirby Center and, as is The Kirby’s summer tradition, you can also catch some classic films on the big screen in July, including “Frozen,” “The Lion King,” and “Star Wars.” Looking to get outside and enjoy nature? On July 1, Frances Slocum State Park will host a “Kids and Kayaks” instructional program on the lake for kids ages 10–12 years old. And on July 2, you can take a guided bird-watching walk at Ricketts Glen State Park. (For more details on these great activities, check our events calendar.) Up for some top-notch, professional baseball? The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, the Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, have 12 home games this month at PNC Field. Play ball!

On July 4, The Wyoming Commemorative Association will host its 147th Annual Observance, in remembrance of the 247th anniversary of the Battle of Wyoming. The event - which observes the most significant battle of the American Revolution in Northeast Pennsylvania - will begin at 10 a.m. at the Wyoming Monument National Historic Site in Wyoming. And, finally, the City of Wilkes-Barre will host its annual Old-Fashioned 4th of July celebration on July 4 at Kirby Park. This timeless holiday tradition will include food vendors, rides, a brass and percussion performance by members of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic, and, of course, plenty of dazzling, eye-popping fireworks!

Happy 4th, everyone! We hope you have a great July!

Alan, Sheena, Kyle, Gaye and David
