Gather, Savor, Explore — November Adventures Await in Luzerne County! | | | Hello everyone!
As we turn the calendar into November, the weather gets colder, and the days grow shorter. But here in Luzerne County, all that means is that we shift gears from having plenty of great outdoor events to having plenty of great indoor events. And November is jam-packed with fun things to do inside …
The fabulous F.M. Kirby Center has a whopping 14 events on its calendar this month, including Mania: The Abba Tribute on November 2; the critically acclaimed NEEDTOBREATHE on November 7; the Nutcracker Musical Christmas Ballet on November 8; famed magician Justin Willman on November 16; hard-rock royalty Queensrÿche and Accept on November 19; modern-rock favorites Blue October on November 21; Almost Queen, a tribute to Queen, on November 22; and Mannheim Steamroller Christmas on November 29. The Kirby, located on Public Square in Wilkes-Barre, is a short walk from several terrific downtown restaurants, which makes it the perfect centerpiece for a night on the town. | | Up for some high-level professional hockey? Though it’s chilly on the ice, the seats at the Mohegan Arena are always warm and toasty, and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have five home games this month: November 5, 8, 14, 15, and 28. It’s always a great time when the minor league affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins get in the rink, and you never know when you’ll be watching a player destined for greatness in the NHL. In addition to hockey, you can catch some music at the arena. Motionless in White, who were recently inducted into the Luzerne County Arts & Entertainment Hall of Fame, will perform on November 13; Trans-Siberian Orchestra brings its annual holiday spectacle on November 22; and pop/punk favorites All Time Low hit the stage on November 29. | | On November 1, the Little Theatre of Wilkes-Barre concludes its run of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” and, also on November 1, ’80s rockers Firehouse will plug in at Penn’s Peak in Jim Thorpe. Also on the bill is guitar wizard George Lynch. NEPA Craftworks will host a “Fall Into the Holidays Craft Market” on November 22 and 23 at the Jewish Community Center in Kingston, and on November 29, The Bank in Downtown Wilkes-Barre will host a “Holiday Vendor Market.” And on November 21, the NEPA Philharmonic Brass Quintet will perform at the historic Luzerne County Courthouse, under the Rotunda. The candlelit performance will feature a brassy, fanfare-filled jazz and classical program spanning from Bach to Gershwin and Bernstein. | | | For adults over 21, Mohegan Pennsylvania has plenty of entertainment on tap, including live music at Breakers and The Hive Tap House, local championship boxing in the Keystone Ballroom, stand-up comedy at Wisecrackers, and harness racing on the track. Check out their website for full details.
The Lands at Hillside Farms will host a “Christmas Tea & Tour” on November 29 and 30, and “Joy Through the Grove,” a dazzling drive-through Christmas lights display, will run from November 28 through December 31 at Knoebels Grove. | | Veterans from throughout the county will be honored on November 9 at the Wyoming Valley Veterans Parade, which marches down Market Street in Kingston and ends on Wilkes-Barre’s Public Square.
