Fall Into Fun — September Is Packed With Events! | | | Hello everyone! Judging by the cooler temperatures that we’ve felt in late August, it looks as though fall might come early this year. And that means that our gorgeous fall foliage season will be here before you know it! It’s a great time to be outside in Luzerne County and all around Northeastern Pennsylvania, and whether you’re looking to do something inside or out, there are plenty of great choices in September! | | The biggest event of the month is, of course, the Luzerne County Fair, which takes place from September 3-7 at the Luzerne County Fairgrounds in Lehman Township. The event features plenty of great food vendors, rides, animal attractions, and live music. And, if one Fair isn’t enough, the big Bloomsburg Fair kicks off on September 19 and runs through September 27. | | Throughout the entire month of September – on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays – the Lakeland Orchard & Cidery in Scott Township will hold its annual Apple Harvest Festival. While there, you can enjoy apple-picking, apple slushies, ice cream, apple dumplings, a petting zoo, train rides and carnival rides. Looking for more family fun? The Reading & Northern Railroad will host a scenic train ride from Mountain Top to Jim Thorpe on September 13, and – also on September 13 – you can visit the Fall Craft Fair at the Garden Drive-In. | | Also on September 13, the Borough of Luzerne will host its 27thannual Fall Pumpkin Festival, featuring bounce houses, food trucks, live entertainment, and more than 100 vendors offering seasonal goods and local favorites. On September 27, the Riverfront Parks committee will host Chalkfest at the Millennium Circle in Wilkes-Barre, and from September 5-28, Roba Family Farms will present Jurassic Farm Dino Fest, featuring 30 life-sized dinosaurs and live dinosaur shows. | | For the adults, the Susquehanna Brewing Company will host an Oktoberfest on September 6, and Mohegan Pennsylvania will hold a Rock & Brew Fall Festival on September 13. On September 14, Susquehanna Kayak and Canoe Rentals will host a Kayak Wine Tour to the Bartolai Winery and Clubhouse315 will hold a Boots & Brews Country Music Festival. On September 27, Breaker Brewing Company will hold its Oktoberfest and Penn’s Peak will host a Mountain Beer & Wine Festival. | On September 6, the annual Good Things Are Happening music festival will take place at The Iron Furnaces in Scranton and will feature some fine artists from Northeastern Pennsylvania, including James Barrett, Southside 5 and the event’s headliner, The Menzingers. On September 13, the Keystone Arts Center will host Harvest Groove, a day of funk, soul, folk, silent disco, comedy, poetry, yoga, and more. Gold Dust Woman: The Ultimate Stevie Nicks Show comes to Penns Peak on September 16, and Mohegan Pennsylvania will offer plenty of great live music this month, including Draw The Line: A Tribute to Aerosmith, on September 4, and Motley 2: A Tribute to Motley Crue, on September 11. Also at the casino, on September 5, you can catch Flaxy Morgan at Breakers and Dustin Douglas & The Electric Gentlemen at Embers Terrace. And there will be plenty of laughs at the casino on September 7 when Wise Crackers Comedy Club hosts the finals of its “NEPA’s Funniest” competition. On September 18, the Diamond City Partnership will hold its final “Sunsets on South Main” event of 2025, with music provided by South Side Five. | | Traditionally, the F.M. Kirby Center – one of the crown jewels of Northeastern Pennsylvania – lightens its schedule in the summer, but now that fall is here, it’ll be hopping again with the Nurse Blake comedy show on 9/12, Celtic Thunder on 9/16, the Mel Brooks classic “Spaceballs” on 9/17, the Dusty Slay comedy show on 9/20, rock legend Steve Winwood on 9/22, the World Ballet Company’s presentation of “Cinderella” on 9/24,” the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic’s “Bewitching Broadway” show on 9/27 and the Addams Family Musical on 9/28. | | Multi-platinum and award-winning superstar Cole Swindell will bring his Happy Hour Sad Tour to Mohegan Arena on September 13, and the arena will host an NEPA Yard Sale on September 6. Other September events include a 9/11 Observance at the Luzerne County Court House, which will take place under the Courthouse Rotunda at 8:30 a.m., and the Forty Fort Cemetery’s 2nd Annual Walk/5K/10K on September 13. And our boys of summer, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders, will host their final homestead of the season from September 9-14, when they’ll take on the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. And finally, as we get deeper into the fall, our wonderful hiking trails will be packed with plenty of visitors, and to help plan your foliage hikes, our next guest on our “Next Stop” podcast will be Rhiannon Summers, an Environmental Education Specialist with North Branch Land Trust and DCNR, who will be discussing all of the great things about Ricketts Glen State Park. Look for it next week on our website and social media! Enjoy! Alan, Sheena, Kyle, Gaye and David
