March is Pure Gold 🌈💰🍀

Hello everyone!

It’s time to go marching into March, which is always a great time of year in Luzerne County and throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania. Not only do the days get both longer and warmer, but we’ve got also parades, lots of live musical events, hockey, and the return of baseball. So, let’s get right to it…

There are three big St. Patrick’s Day parades happening in the region this month. The Pittston City's St. Patrick’s Day parade will take place in downtown Pittston on March 1, and the City of Wilkes-Barre will host its annual St. Pat’s parade on March 9. Once again, Wilkes-Barre’s parade will feature giant inflatables, which help bring a big-city feel to the event. On March 8, just over the county line, the City of Scranton will host its annual St. Patrick’s Day parade, which is one of the largest St. Pat’s parades in the United States. Get your green on, hit a parade, and celebrate the mighty shamrock! Erin go Bragh!

The F.M. Kirby Center in Wilkes-Barre has a full slate of great shows this month, including the Grateful Dead-inspired Dark Star Orchestra on March 7 and March 8, the great Trey Anastasio of Phish on March 11, and the Shamrock Tenors on March 19. Up for a night of classic rock? The Legends Live On tribute show - which features the music of Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and Styx – comes to The Kirby on March 25. Also at The Kirby, Experience Hendrix will crank up the amps on March 30. Designed as a tribute to Jimi Hendrix, the show features guitar greats such as Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Zakk Wylde.

The Mohegan Arena will also be busy this month, with the Dropkick Murphys plugging in on March 11. (And isn’t an American Celtic punk band a great way to rev up for St. Patrick’s Day?) The Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum MercyMe comes to the arena on March 14, and there will be plenty of big trucks and lots of dirt and mud when Monster Jam rolls in on March 28, 29 and 30. Up for some great, high-speed, professional hockey? The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins hit the ice on March 4, 8, 9, 12, 21, 22 and 26.

Heading to the Mohegan Pennsylvania casino? Giddy-up! Live harness racing returns to the track on March 1. The casino also offers plenty of live music throughout the venue, and stand-up comedy at Wisecrackers. Check the events listings on their website for specific dates and times.

One of the surest signs of spring is the return of baseball, and the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders season kicks off on March 28 with a road trip to Lehigh Valley, followed by another road jaunt to Syracuse. But they’ll be back at PNC Field in Moosic for their home opener on April 8, when they’ll take on the Rochester Red Wings. The RailRiders are the Triple-A affiliate of the 27-time World Champion and current American League Champion New York Yankees, and a RailRiders season offers baseball fans the opportunity to not only see the organization’s top prospects, but also, quite often Yankee stars making their way back to the big leagues. Play ball!
