Sip, Sip Hooray!

Hello everyone!

We hope you all had a great holiday season, and we wish you all a happy and healthy 2025!

In Luzerne County and throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania, there’s no need for any post-holiday blues, as the month of January is jam-packed with all sorts of great events and fun activities …

Looking for some timeless, high-quality, family entertainment? The legendary “Disney on Ice” comes to Mohegan Arena on January 9, 10, 11 and 12. Also on the ice at the arena, of course, will be the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, who have home games on January 3,4,18, 25, 26, and 29.

The F.M. Kirby Center also has a full schedule this month, including Wild World of Animals Live on January 9. The show was voted one of the top five “edutainment” shows in the world by the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions. It has been performed in 36 different states features approximately 13 different animals ranging from reptiles and birds to mammals. On January 18, the Kenny & Dolly Tribute Show comes to The Kirby. The concert features “remarkable vocal likenesses, stunning costumes, and engaging stage chemistry” between the performers, and we think it’s a pretty safe bet that “Islands In the Stream” will be performed. On January 30, Grammy-nominated country star Lee Brice, who has had eight #1 hits, will perform at The Kirby, and on January 31, you can “get down tonight” with the classic disco sounds of KC & The Sunshine Band at The Kirby.

Up for more music? Penn’s Peak has some fine tribute acts on the bill this month. Double Vision, featuring the music of Foreigner, will plug in on January 11 and Satisfaction: The International Rolling Stones Show, will perform on January 18. (The band performed at Rockin’ the River in 2023 and they were fabulous.) On January 19, All You Need Is Love: An All-Star Celebration of The Beatles will also be at Penn’s Peak. The show features “state-of-the-art production and visuals, creating an immersive experience that will transport audiences through the golden era of The Beatles.”

If your lungs are craving some of that crisp, hearty, outdoor winter air, the City of Wilkes-Barre is offering free ice-skating on Public Square throughout the entire winter, with free skate rentals on the weekends. And though the trails at Ricketts Glen State Park are closed during the winter, you can still hike the trails provided you have the appropriate ice-hiking gear. (All winter hikers must first check in at the Ricketts Glen State Park office. (695 State Rt. 487, Benton.) Want to hit the slopes? You can ski, snowboard, and snow tube at one of the 26 trails at Montage Mountain Resorts.

Also, here at Visit Luzerne County, we recently added two new methods to the ways we promote and celebrate all of the great things to see and do here in Northeastern Pennsylvania. First, we are now on TikTok, and so please follow us there for weekly posts. And, we have also launched a new monthly podcast, Next Stop: Visit Luzerne County podcast which is available on Spotify, YouTube, our website, and social media platforms. Each month, we’ll be chatting with someone from Northeastern Pennsylvania that is involved with tourism, arts and entertainment, the outdoors, local history, sports, or anything that makes Luzerne County and NEPA a fun place to live and visit.

Enjoy!

Alan, Sarah, Gaye, Kyle and David
