December Delights & Holiday Magic Across Luzerne County!

alt

Ho! Ho! Ho!

Andy Williams was right! It really is the most wonderful time of the year! And here in Luzerne County and throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania, there are plenty of fun and festive events on tap throughout the entire month, which can help you celebrate the holidays

On December 4, Luzerne County will host its Annual Tree-Lighting Ceremony under the beautiful rotunda of the Luzerne County Courthouse. There will be musical performances by the Hazleton Area High School Chorus, the MMI Black Diamond Chorale, and Bret Alexander of the Badlees. And
a certain jolly fellow from the North Pole will also be on hand. Event time is 5 p.m., light refreshments will be served, and all are welcome!

“Joy Through The Grove,” a dazzling, drive-thru holiday light display, will continue at Knoebels Grove through December 31, and Eckley Miners’ Village will host “Christmas at Eckley” on December 6 and 7. The event will feature live music and holiday crafts. The Pennsylvania Theatre of Performing Arts will present a stage adaptation of “A Christmas Carol” on December 12, 13, and 14, and The Little Theatre of Wilkes-Barre will present “A Christmas Carol” on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 12/12 through 12/21. (And there’s nothing “humbug” about that!) Up for a short road trip? Penn’s Peak in Jim Thorpe will present “A Rocky Mountain Christmas – A Tribute to John Denver” on 12/13.

The F.M. Kirby Center in Wilkes-Barre has 11 events on its schedule this month, including “Cirque Musica Holiday Wonderland” on 12/7, “It Must Be Christmas – An Acoustic Evening with Chris Young” on 12/11, “A Christmas Carol” on 12/15, “The Snowman with the NEPA Philharmonic” on December 20, and the Dance Theatre of Wilkes-Barre’s “The Nutcracker Spectacular” on 12/21.

alt

In addition to holiday-themed entertainment, you can also catch plenty of other great events this month, including the Music Box Dinner Playhouse’s presentation of “Annie,” which continues through 12/21. The WWE’s “Friday Night SmackDown” comes to Mohegan Arena on 12/12, and Mike Miz & The Northeast Extension will do a special “Chandelier” show at The Kirby on 12/27. Miz, a native of NEPA, has been living, writing, recording, and performing in Nashville for the past several years, but always comes home for a handful of shows throughout the year, and this should be a good one. And
if you’re looking for a big party on New Year’s Eve, you can head to the Mohegan Pennsylvania casino, where a “Midnight Masquerade Celebration Party” will welcome 2026 on 12/31.

alt

Up for some professional hockey? The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will hit the ice and are home at Mohegan Arena on 12/5, 12/13, 12/14, 12/16, 12/20, 12/21, 12/27, and 12/30.

From all of us here at Visit Luzerne County, we wish everyone a happy, safe, and festive holiday season. Enjoy the most wonderful time of the year!

Alan, Sheena, Kyle, Gaye, and David
