Editor's Take

So here's the thing about Circa Lighting-except it's not really Circa Lighting anymore. In 2023, the brand officially became Visual Comfort & Co., wrapping up a rebrand that started back in 2022. But honestly? Most people still think of it as that upscale lighting company that made designer fixtures feel accessible.

The story's kind of fascinating, actually. Brother and sister duo Andy and Gale Singer built this lighting empire over decades-Andy with Visual Comfort manufacturing, Gale with her boutique Circa Lighting showrooms. Andy's Visual Comfort had become a premier manufacturer of lighting to both retailers and the design trade, while Gale had built up a small but thriving network of four Circa Lighting showrooms that specialized in selling Visual Comfort. They were basically selling to each other, which worked great until it got confusing.

The rebrand makes total sense when you think about it. When they wound up merging with the Generation brands, they were trying to promote Visual Comfort, Circa, Monte Carlo, Tech Lighting and Generation Lighting-five brands total, and in today's world with social media and search, that's a lot. Now everything's under the Visual Comfort & Co. umbrella, and frankly, it's cleaner.

What hasn't changed is the quality. These aren't your basic Home Depot fixtures-we're talking hand-crafted pieces from designers like Kelly Wearstler, AERIN, and Thomas O'Brien. Visual Comfort & Co. is a premier resource of designer lighting, with an array of light fixtures including pendant lighting and chandeliers. The price points reflect that premium positioning, but you're getting museum-quality craftsmanship.

The showroom experience is where they really shine. With 55 showrooms nationwide, you can actually see these fixtures in person, which matters when you're dropping serious money on a statement chandelier. The showroom includes a state-of-the-art demonstration area where customers can experience how layers of light, light levels and color temperature schemes impact the mood and functionality of a space. Additionally, customers can test options in decorative, downlighting, cove lighting and more.

And here's what's smart about their approach-they're not just selling fixtures, they're selling lighting design expertise. They are a source of expertise and guidance for customers and operate with the highest integrity. They inspire customers with innovative design and impeccable customer service. That's the kind of service that justifies premium pricing in a world where you can buy lighting anywhere.
