The Capitals announced several initiatives across the D.C. region in honor of Alex Ovechkin becoming the NHL’s All-Time goals leader. Initiatives include a special GR895 practice on Wednesday, pregame ceremony on Thursday and the GR8 City Celebration featuring Ovechkin in attendance at Union Station on Friday.
Alex Ovechkin has been named the NHL’s First Star for the week ending April 6th. Ovechkin, who recorded a total of six points (5g, 1a) during the week, scored in all four of the Capitals’ games, including April 6th against the New York Islanders to pass Wayne Gretzky for the most goals in NHL history.
In the early afternoon of April 6th, the player the Caps selected with the first overall pick nearly 21 years ago, the man who has forever altered the hockey landscape in Washington and far beyond, completed a chase that was two decades in the making.
Join us for the Capitals vs. Blue Jackets game on Sunday, April 13th for our annual Fan Appreciation Night, presented by Bud Light, and take home a special 50th Anniversary poster designed by Art of Words.
The Capitals are excited to host Coast Guard Night on Thursday, April 10th at 7:30 PM during the Carolina Hurricanes game. All tickets purchased through this special ticket offer will include a co-branded Caps x Coast Guard hat.
Ovechkin is now the leading goal scorer in NHL history, and while his journey to break the record is complete, THE GR8 CHASE for Victory Over Cancer® continues.
