Returns

What is the return window?
Wayfair allows returns within 30 days of delivery for most items. During the holiday season, Wayfair extends its return window - items purchased between November 1 and December 31 can be returned until January 31.

Are there any items that are non-returnable?
Items like custom or made-to-order products, clearance items, gift cards, live plants, swatches, and items marked as "Non-Returnable" are not eligible for returns. Items must be in their original condition, meaning they must be unassembled and in the original packaging - used, damaged, or assembled items are not accepted for return.

How will I receive my refund?
Refunds are usually processed within 3-5 business days after the item is received at Wayfair's return center, and your refund will be credited back to your original payment method. If you used store credit or a gift card, the refund will be issued as store credit.

Who pays for return shipping?
You will receive a prepaid shipping label, but the return shipping cost will be deducted from your refund unless the return is due to a Wayfair error. Return shipping costs and any restocking fees will be deducted from your refund. If you choose store credit instead of a refund to your original payment method, Wayfair often waives the return shipping fee.

What if I received a damaged or incorrect item?
If an item arrives damaged or defective, Wayfair typically covers the cost of return shipping and may offer a replacement or refund without additional charges. In cases where the wrong item is shipped by mistake, Wayfair will usually cover return shipping costs. Contact customer service immediately, provide photos of the damage, and Wayfair may offer a replacement, repair, or refund depending on the severity of the damage and item availability.

Editor's Take

So here's the thing about Wayfair-it's basically become the Amazon of home goods, but with way more personality. They've got "A Zillion Things Home" across all styles and budgets, with 5,000 brands of furniture, lighting, cookware, and more. And honestly? That's not marketing fluff.

What makes Wayfair interesting is how they've managed to crack the code on something that should be impossible: selling furniture online at scale. Think about it-most people want to sit on a couch before dropping $2,000 on it. But Wayfair just opened their first-ever physical store in Wilmette, Illinois-a massive 150,000 square-foot space that's basically their testing ground for bridging online and offline retail.

The numbers tell a story too. Wayfair's collection features over 7 million products from 12,000 brands, including their own family of brands like Birch Lane, AllModern, Perigold, and Joss & Main. That's not just big-that's "we have everything you didn't know you needed" big.

But here's where it gets really smart: they're not just throwing products at a wall. During promotions, roughly 30% of revenue comes from specifically promoted items, but the other 70% comes from customers discovering other products while browsing. It's the digital equivalent of wandering through IKEA and somehow leaving with a cart full of stuff you never intended to buy.

The company's also betting heavily on technology and logistics. Their CastleGate fulfillment network has ample capacity for current volume and is strategically positioned to access everywhere in the U.S. in a timely manner. Translation: they've built the infrastructure to actually deliver on those "free shipping" promises without losing their shirts.

What's particularly clever is how they've diversified beyond just being a marketplace. Their supplier advertising revenue has grown from about 1% of revenue in August 2023 to 1.5% by the end of that year, and it's continued growing since. They're essentially becoming a media company for home goods brands.

The real test, though, is customer experience. They offer 30-day returns on most items, which sounds generous until you realize you might have to pay return shipping on that sectional sofa. But for an industry where "try before you buy" used to be impossible online, they've made it work.
