Editor's Take

So here's the thing about WEBS - it's basically the yarn lover's equivalent of finding that perfect vintage record store, except instead of dusty albums, you're surrounded by thousands of skeins in every color imaginable.

Started back in 1974 as a second-generation family-owned business, WEBS has this interesting dual personality. There's the brick-and-mortar store in Northampton, Massachusetts, and then there's their massive online presence at yarn.com. But honestly? The physical location is where the magic really happens.

Walk into their 15,000 square foot space and you'll immediately understand why people make pilgrimages here. The front showcases all the luxury stuff - your Berrocos, your Cascade Yarns, over 90 yarn brands in thousands of colors. But then you venture into the back warehouse, and that's where things get interesting. It's filled with closeouts - first-quality yarns at unbeatable prices, basically yarn heaven for anyone who's ever felt guilty about their stash size.

And here's what's clever about their business model: spend $60 or more on regularly priced yarn and save 20%; spend $120 or more and save 25% every day. It's like they understand that yarn people don't buy just one skein - we buy for projects we haven't even thought of yet.

They've been dedicated to serving the fiber arts community since 1974 and bringing yarns direct to customers since 1987. Decades of industry expertise go into every one of their yarns. Plus, they produce their own Valley Yarns line, which has become something of a cult favorite among knitters who want quality without the luxury price tag.

The staff actually knows their stuff too - they're happy to help you pick out the right yarn for your project, or the right yarn for the project you have in mind. And if you're into classes, they offer classes in knitting, weaving, crochet, spinning, and other fiber techniques.

What really sets WEBS apart is that they've managed to scale up without losing that local yarn shop feel. Sure, they ship internationally and have this massive online catalog, but walk into their Northampton location and you still get that "kid in a candy store" experience that makes yarn shopping so addictive in the first place.
