Editor's Take
White Mountain Puzzles isn't just another puzzle company-it's basically the comfort food of the jigsaw world. Founded in 1978 (same year as Ben & Jerry's, fun fact), this New Hampshire company started as a small poster business and evolved into what they are today. And unlike Ben & Jerry's, they're still family-owned, with the founders' sons now running the show.
What sets them apart? Their 1,000-piece puzzles are made with premium blue chipboard and measure 24" x 30" when finished-the largest in the industry. That's not marketing fluff; it's genuinely noticeable when you're working on one. The pieces are larger and very easy to handle, which makes the whole experience less frustrating and more enjoyable.
Every puzzle is manufactured in America, and they're serious about quality. They back everything with their "Happiness Guarantee"-if you're not completely delighted, they'll replace your puzzle for free. That's confidence in your product right there.
The themes are where they really shine. They offer colorful jigsaw puzzles from recognized artists, available for all ages and all levels of difficulty. We're talking everything from nostalgic Americana collages to scenic landscapes, using licensed artwork from well-known artists, illustrators, and photographers. Their puzzles are random cut, meaning pieces are cut in various shapes and sizes with whimsical, non-uniform edges, which adds an extra challenge beyond the typical grid pattern.
They're still located in Jackson, NH (population 850), in the White Mountain National Forest, just minutes from Mount Washington. Their store is open Monday through Saturday 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, and Sundays 10:30 am to 4:30 pm, with customer support available 24/7.
Here's something cool: in 2018, they represented New Hampshire as one of only 50 companies invited to the White House for the Made in America Showcase. Not bad for a small-town puzzle company.
