Editor's Take
Ever wonder what happens when tech meets storytelling? That's basically Wonderbly's whole thing, and honestly, they've nailed it in a way that's kind of brilliant.
So here's the deal: Wonderbly is an online publisher that makes personalized books for kids and adults. Since 2013, their bestselling books have delighted over 10 million happy readers all over the world. But they're not just slapping names into generic templates-this is sophisticated stuff.
Wonderbly, previously Lost My Name, is a technology and publishing business that produces personalized books for children and adults. Launched in 2012, Wonderbly has sold over 8 million books in 169 countries and territories, and their titles are available in 11 languages. Those numbers aren't just impressive; they're staggering for a company that started as four friends with an idea.
The personalization goes way beyond just inserting a kid's name. Take their flagship book, "The Little Boy/Girl Who Lost His/Her Name"-it's a personalised picture book for readers whose age ranges between two and six years old. The book tells of a child who has lost their name and goes on an adventure to find it. Each book comprises a selection of mini stories, each of which feature the letters of the child's missing name. It's like they've cracked the code on making every kid the hero of their own story.
And they keep pushing boundaries. The Incredible Intergalactic Journey Home, a picture book personalised around a child's address that featured a satellite image of their real home. I mean, come on-that's the kind of detail that makes a five-year-old think magic is real.
The business side is equally impressive. As of June 2025, Wonderbly is owned by Penguin Random House, a subsidiary of the German media conglomerate Bertelsmann. On 4 June 2025, it was announced that Penguin Random House had acquired Wonderbly. When one of the world's biggest publishers buys you, that's validation that your approach to personalized publishing isn't just a novelty-it's the future.
What really sets them apart is their tech-forward approach to an old-school industry. Getting personalised books to all those millions of customers requires a multidisciplinary team. Our people have experience across editorial design, research, production, software engineering, marketing, ecommerce, data analysis, print-on-demand manufacturing, shipping… the list goes on. This means that Wonderbly is a very collaborative and creative place to work, with opportunities for growth and development across a broad range of skills.
The quality obsession is real too. They've won recognition including Silver winner for Best Children's Story 3 to 5 Years, Bronze winner for Best Children's Story Preschool, Winner of the Self Published Books category at British Book Design and Production Awards, and Gold winner for Innovative Book of the Year at Junior Design Awards.
Honestly? I think Wonderbly represents something bigger than just personalized books. They've figured out how to use technology to create genuine emotional connections, and in a world where everything feels increasingly digital and impersonal, that's pretty extraordinary.
