Editor's Take

So here's the thing about Woom Bikes - they basically took one look at the kids' bike market and said "we can do way better than this." And honestly? They weren't wrong.

Founded back in 2013 by two dads in Vienna who couldn't find decent bikes for their own kids, Woom has kind of become the gold standard for children's bicycles. On average, woom bikes weigh as much as 40% less than standard children's bikes. That's not just marketing fluff - it actually matters when you've got a four-year-old trying to maneuver something that weighs half as much as they do.

What makes them different? Well, pretty much everything. 90% of the installed components are specially built for the requirements of children. They're not just shrinking down adult bikes and slapping bright colors on them. The geometry is designed specifically for kids' bodies, the brakes are reach-adjustable for tiny hands, and they've got this steering limiter thing that keeps beginners from oversteering and wiping out.

The company's grown like crazy - woom is a globally acclaimed children's bicycle company, originally founded in Austria in 2013 and has since expanded internationally to 30 countries worldwide. They've disrupted the North American market as the largest direct-to-consumer kids' bike brand, which is pretty impressive considering they started in a garage.

Their lineup covers everything from the brand-new WOW (a self-balancing bike for babies as young as 9 months) all the way up to mountain bikes and e-bikes for teenagers. The GO collection is their beginner-friendly series, while the EXPLORE line handles gravel and light trails. And if your kid's really into it, the OFF and OFF AIR mountain bikes are legit trail machines.

One thing that's kind of genius - they offer this upCYCLING membership program. Pay a one-time fee, and when your kid outgrows their bike, you can trade it in for 40% of the original purchase price toward the next size up. Kids grow fast, so that actually makes a lot of sense financially.

They're also big on sustainability and quality. We have full confidence in our bikes, which is why we offer a 10-year warranty on the aluminum frames, rigid forks, bars and stem once you've registered online. A 10-year warranty on a kids' bike? That's basically unheard of.

The Austin headquarters has a showroom where you can actually see the bikes in person, which is nice since buying a bike online for a kid can feel like a gamble. But they also work with over 100 retail partners now, including REI stores across the country.

Look, are they expensive? Yeah, compared to what you'd find at a big-box store. But parents seem to think they're worth it - the bikes hold their value incredibly well on the secondhand market, and lots of families pass them down through multiple kids. When you factor in the weight, the safety features, and how much easier they make it for kids to actually learn to ride, it starts to make sense why they've become so popular.
