Returns

What is the return window?
Yakima offers 30-day returns. To qualify for a return, items must be unused, in their original packaging, and in the same condition as received. Yakima reserves the right to refuse or adjust refunds for returns that are used, incomplete, damaged, or received beyond the 30-day return window.

Do I need a receipt to return an item?
To request a return, you need to obtain a Return Authorization number (RA) by visiting their return policy page or contacting customer service at 888-925-4621 during business hours.

Are there any items that are non-returnable?
Yakima does not accept returns for orders placed through their Pro Purchase program, with the exception of errors made in processing or shipping.

How will I receive my refund?
Refunds may be reduced or denied at Yakima's sole discretion for returns that are used, incomplete, damaged, or received beyond the 30-day return window. The refund is typically issued to the original payment method.

Who pays for return shipping?
Customers are generally responsible for return shipping costs unless the product is defective or there was an error in the order.

Editor's Take

Here's the thing about Yakima-they've basically been the go-to name in car racks since 1979, which is kind of wild when you think about it. We're talking over 45 years of helping people haul their bikes, kayaks, skis, and basically whatever adventure gear they can dream up to wherever they want to go.

What started as a small machine shop in Yakima, Washington has turned into this massive operation that pretty much defines the category. And honestly? They've earned it. The company's whole vibe is about making it stupid-easy to get your stuff from point A to point B without worrying whether your $2,000 mountain bike is gonna fly off on the highway.

Their product lineup is actually pretty impressive. You've got roof racks that work with practically any vehicle-sedans, SUVs, trucks, whatever. Bike racks that mount on roofs, hitches, or even spare tires. Cargo boxes for when you need to pack like you're moving but you're really just going camping for the weekend. And they've expanded into rooftop tents, awnings, and all sorts of overland gear that's become super popular lately.

But here's what sets them apart: the engineering. Yakima products use this Same Key System (SKS) where all your locks use the same key, which sounds simple but is genius when you're fumbling around in the dark trying to secure your gear. Their racks are designed to be tool-free or nearly tool-free to install, because nobody wants to spend an hour in a parking lot with an instruction manual.

The company's headquartered in Lake Oswego, Oregon-right outside Portland-which makes sense given the Pacific Northwest's obsession with outdoor recreation. They employ somewhere between 201-500 people and have expanded globally, with distribution across Europe, Australia, and beyond. They're constantly innovating too, recently launching products like the MOD Drawer System for vehicle organization.

Yakima's also big on sustainability and partnerships with outdoor recreation organizations, which tracks with their whole "get outside and do stuff" ethos. They've got this RackPack Ambassador program featuring athletes and adventurers who actually use their products in gnarly conditions.

The pricing isn't cheap, but you're paying for quality and engineering that's been refined over decades. A basic roof rack system might run you a few hundred bucks, while a full setup with cargo box and bike mounts can easily hit four figures. But for people who are serious about their outdoor pursuits, Yakima's become almost synonymous with reliable gear transport.
