We rarely do this, but we've added a very special product to our Spring Sale: Maussane olive oil!
Maussane has been our most popular French olive oil for years and now—for March 11th and 12th—it's on sale!
While most olive oil producers harvest their olives when they're still green on the tree, Maussane is made using the old-fashioned Provençal fruité noir, or "black fruity" method. They pick the olives late in season, when most of them have ripened to near-black, and they are left to ferment a bit. They refer to the olives as "preserved." It's a traditional method that was far more common in the past, but today early picking and pressing is the norm.
Instead of green and grassy and bitter, Maussane's oil tastes of ripe olives. It has a very rich, buttery texture and a slightly savory finish.
And it's on sale till midnight tomorrow, Thursday March 12th, 2026.
There's one more thing to know about this oil: it's NOT extra virgin. Sorta.
The Provençal fruité noir method of processing results in an oil rated as "virgin," not "extra virgin." Oftentimes that can be an indication of lesser quality, but in this case, it's a reflection of the flavor profile being so distinctly different than other extra virgin olive oils.
We've been selling this oil for decades and that's always been the situation. So don't judge this "book" by it's label—though it's a very nice label in its own right.
