Every time you're in the loo, your pup follows... why?
Do you have a "bathroom curious" dog?
A pup who parks themselves within sniffing range... sometimes even leaning on the door (or right at your feet)... like a loyal, if overly curious, royal bodyguard....
Did you ever wonder why?
1. Pack Duty & Protection In their minds, you’re in a vulnerable position.
Guarding the door is their way of saying, “I’ve got your back, no intruder’s getting past me.”
And if you think that sounds weird, have you ever taken your dog on a walk and then stood by while they "did their business"?
In their mind, they're just returning the favor. It's what friends do.
2. Scent Investigation For dogs, bathrooms are full of intriguing smells.
Dogs sense of smell is 10,000 more sensitive than humans. Scent provides information and stimulation... and what can give more scent-ter-tainment...
... than your unique “you” scent plus soaps, towels, toothpaste... a whole universe a dog’s nose wants to explore!
Bathroom time is like a top Netflix show for dog noses - can't miss.
3. FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) Any time you disappear - even for a minute - some dogs worry they might miss the next adventure (or treat).
It's a micro-moment of separation anxiety.
If it actively bothers you or anyone in your household, one good trick is to leave a bathroom-exclusive toy under the sink.
Give the toy outside the door, and only during bathroom time, so it remains a special treat that keeps their attention.
Don't do this to start, or it could reinforce the behavior, but if your pup has already made it a habit, it can give you some space.
Or, you can just accept it as one of the quirky joys of pet parenting.
