Summer Care Tips
While you’re soaking up summer, your plants are quietly bracing for seasonal change. Late summer is when houseplants start adjusting their growth patterns, prepping for shorter days, cooler temps, and slower metabolism. Ignore it, and you’ll see more yellowing leaves, pest flare-ups, and stalled growth. Pay attention, and you’ll set them up for a gorgeous fall.
🌱Give them a growth “exit strategy.”
Plants sense shortening days long before we do. Start easing back on fertilizer so they can harden off their summer growth before fall. Think of it as helping them close out their “summer chapter” before the plot twist hits.
🪰Start a pest stakeout.
Warm, humid August air = prime breeding ground for spider mites, fungus gnats, and aphids. Inspect undersides of leaves weekly. A quick leaf wipe now can save you from a full-blown infestation in September.
🌬️Help them breathe.
Dust blocks light and clogs pores (yep, plants have pores). A quick leaf wash in August boosts photosynthesis just when they need it most before light levels drop.
💧Hydrate smarter, not harder.
August heat makes us want to water more, but overwatering is still the #1 plant killer. Instead of following a schedule, stick a finger two inches into the soil — if it’s dry, water deeply, then let it drain fully.
