Valentine’s Day usually comes with gifts that fade fast. Flowers wilt. Chocolates disappear.
When we made our
Original Balance Board, I hoped it would be something different. Something people would live with for years.
A few weeks ago, I heard from K.S., a customer who bought one of our original red boards more than 10 years ago.
He is still standing on it today.
Same board.
Same deck.
Same frame.
Aside from a little missing paint on the bottom and a few dents on the top, it still works like new. He has never replaced a single part. The only maintenance in a decade was tightening the screws once.
That alone made me pause.
But what really stayed with me was how the board became part of his daily life.
K.S. uses his board at least four hours a day, three days a week, every week. He has worked standing ever since he bought it and has never lowered his desk again.
On days he is not on the board, he feels the difference immediately. He slouches more. He leans. He feels less engaged.
On the board, he feels more energized. The subtle, constant movement keeps him alert in a way sitting never did.
The first week felt strange, he told me. Even uncomfortable. He chalked it up to waking up muscles that had been asleep for years.
By week two, it felt normal.
Now he does not even think about balancing. He spins, taps, and moves naturally while working. His coworkers try it and are surprised by how hard it is to stay still. His kids turn it into a game to see who can spin the most.
He even uses it to make pushups harder when he needs a quick burst of energy during the day.
Recently, K.S. upgraded to a new standing desk at home. As soon as he placed the order, he came back and bought a
second board.
No hesitation.
When he bought his first one, it cost close to $500. People told him it seemed expensive. He cared about quality, longevity, and committing to standing.
Ten years later, he has zero regrets.
In fact, he told me the lower price today makes it easier to recommend than ever.
His advice to anyone considering their first board was simple:
Commit to two weeks.
Make sure your desk is high enough.
Try it barefoot.
And understand that it is a commitment to standing.
Not everyone is ready for that.
But if you are, he said:
“The board makes work better. It makes working from a desk fun.”
That has been
Fluidstance’s goal from the beginning. And it still is.
