Welcome to Sunday Reset, where we share how we’re unwinding and what we have planned for the week ahead. This time, our editor, Julia, is thinking about herbs.
Last weekend, I went home to Chicago to see my nephew. He’s usually in England but made a rare appearance in the suburbs of the Windy City, so I had to fly in. As the youngest in my family, I’m not used to being around babies, so getting to witness their milestones is so exciting—like seeing them try different foods for the first time. He’s about fourteen months old and, so far, he’s into mashed avocado, mango, and the occasional bit of cereal.
A surprising thing he liked? Thyme! We plucked off a sprig for him to smell, and his face lit up. Personally, it’s my favorite herb—and while he’ll probably change his mind next week, I’ve been thinking about thyme-filled recipes nonstop (and secretly hoping he’ll grow up to be a cook).
So here’s what’s top of mind:
I made Nea’s sausage and fennel stuffing for Thanksgiving and Christmas last year and still think about it. It’s packed with sourdough and thyme, and I’m already planning to make it again this year.
This vanilla-thyme lemonade has been on my drink bucket list forever—maybe I’ll finally make it this month.
We had an apple party recently (yes, a party about apples), and someone made Melina Hammer’s Cider-Braised Chicken With Apples & Thyme. It’s been two weeks, and I already want to make it again.
Here are a few more party snacks and drinks I’m loving (because it’s all in the name):
I recently went to Waco to interview Joanna Gaines and tour the Magnolia Silos. As the biggest Fixer Upper fan, it was the highlight of my year (and maybe career). I got to try her new frozen baked goods which you can get my full review of here, plus her famous Silo Cookie recipe.
