Earlier this spring, I made a more sentimental guide, asking 30+ moms what they actually wanted for Mother’s Day (can you guess what their top picks were?). I’m working on the follow-up now, and one thing keeps coming up again and again: It really is the thought that counts—and sometimes homemade beats anything you can buy.

I’ve been thinking a lot about “classic” Christmas recipes—and how, unlike Thanksgiving, everyone’s version looks totally different. During that little rabbit hole, one tradition stood out to me, one my dad and I revisited last year: glögg. So I’ll leave you with this: simmer a pot of Glögg or Hot Toddies, bake a batch of panettone cookies, and start passing them out.
