$1 Million to Transform Pediatric Cancer Care in South Carolina.

From a backyard barbecue in New Orleans to a brand-new pediatric cancer and blood disorders unit in Greenville, SC. What began 17 years ago as a grassroots way to help one child has grown into a nationwide movement, and last month, we saw the impact up close at Prisma Health Children’s Hospital–Upstate.

In 2023, Hogs kicked off the hospital’s fundraising efforts to renovate their Hematology Oncology Unit with a jaw dropping $1 million pledge. That gift inspired others to join in, fueling a capital campaign that came together brick by brick, rib by rib, dollar by dollar.

Two South Carolina barbecue powerhouses—Home Team BBQ and Swig & Swine—helped turn smoke into support by fundraising through their signature events, Holy Smokes BBQ Festival and Rock the Block. Together, these restaurants and their communities raised more than $250,000 in just two years, fueling Hogs for the Cause’s $1 million pledge and proving how deeply barbecue culture can help families in need.

Fast forward to August 2025: The new Hogs for the Cause Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Unit at Prisma Health Children’s Hospital–Upstate will serve the entire Upstate region, providing nearly 3,000 pediatric cancer and blood disorder admissions each year. By expanding care close to home, the unit ensures that children and families across the region can access world-class treatment without leaving their communities and support networks.

NOVEMBER 8TH • CHARLESTON, SC

The Holy Smokes BBQ Festival is a vibrant barbecue celebration held annually in North Charleston’s scenic Riverfront Park, bringing together more than 50 of the nation’s top pitmasters and chefs under one smoky roof. Festival-goers enjoy an all-you-can-eat journey through four themed barbecue villages—Traditional, Texas, New School, and Coastal—paired with live music and a festive Lowcountry atmosphere.

But Holy Smokes is about more than mouthwatering food—it’s about giving back. Created by Home Team BBQ and Swig & Swine, the event channels Southern barbecue culture into community care, with proceeds supporting Hogs for the Cause and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Charleston. Over the years, the festival has raised well over $200,000 for charitable causes, amplifying Hogs’s mission to support families facing pediatric cancer and uniting barbecue lovers behind a purpose-driven plate.
