It's that time of year again when the weather cannot make up its mind. Here in Austin, you can wake up to a 55-degree fog, race to your car in the rain, arrive at the office during a brief blip of sun, watch a hailstorm unfold at noon, and finish the night sitting outside, sweating through dinner with an equally sweaty Mezcal on the rocks. (My drink of choice this time of year—and most other times, truthfully, if it’s not wine.) Dubious details of the day’s forecast aside, I still make it a point to show up looking intentional—like I was aware of (and prepared for) the weather but didn't totally bend to it. Here’s what I wear on days like this.

Nothing says spring like a top-notch T-shirt to elevate an otherwise ordinary outfit. The Flint and Tinder Surplus Heavy T-Shirt is the perfect one. It is the most popular tee in our office, by far. Plus, we read the reviews, added some softener, and opened up the neckline to make it even better. The subtle ribbed texture dresses it up, while the sweater-soft feel makes it crazy comfortable.

I wear the Wills Cotton Linen Chore Jacket right over our Surplus Tee to add a light layer for that aforementioned morning fog. It adds dimension to my outfit but is airy enough that I won’t melt when the sun eventually comes out and starts warming things up—myself included.

I love Flint and Tinder’s Stretch Selvedge Denim—particularly the limited Natural color. The beauty of the cotton's "natural" hue is that you can literally wear almost any other color with it, and it still "matches.” Not that blue or washed black are bad bets, but something about that natural color whispers, "I know what I'm doing.”

Ever since I discovered the French Derby, invented in the ‘40s for workers who required both durability and all-day comfort, I’ve loved them. I started with the Paraboot Michael in the fall but converted to the Paraboot Suede Micka for warmer weather. It’s a unique-looking shoe, for sure, but it looks great with a pair of jeans or chinos. It has a rounded, roomy toe, a thick welt, and a visibly hefty build. They’re durable, but I'm mostly in it for the comfort. You can’t beat the easy-wearing crepe sole.

I know not everyone does this, but I change my watch every day. I have five watches—one more rugged, another far more refined, and a couple in between. For an outfit like the one I’m assembling here, I would throw on my Oris X Cervo Volante, a classic pilot’s watch with a sustainable twist. The green dial is easy to match, and pairs well with the naturally tanned strap made from sustainably culled Swiss red deer hide. It’s luxurious without screaming it. That is my love language.

When I get home, and the sun’s hitting its stride, I hit the pool deck to watch it set. That’s when I pop on my Wills Salino Swim Trunk. Its tactile seersucker texture makes it nice enough to wear with a linen shirt, but at its core, it's a great swim short. Think Italian Riviera-level sophistication, with a super-soft micro-mesh liner that makes it great for swimming.
