Kindness is simple to do: Just treat others how you would like to be treated.
At Lifeboost?
Our core pillars are: Clean, Cause, Connection, and KINDNESS.
Today is a day about love and kindness.
As I reflect on a great man whose message shook the nation to it's core, I am humbled.
The power of this one man to make a difference, makes me question if I'm doing enough to make a difference in this world.
Dr. King's vision was not just a series of speeches or ideals; it was a call to action.
He believed in the power of individuals to make a difference, and in the unstoppable force of united communities.
His words, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'" continue to challenge and inspire us.
THIS is my favorite quote of his:
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."
Take a moment and think about that quote. It's exceptionally well written.
And hard to put into action.
One example:
With the invention of social media, it's easy to get caught up in all the polarization. It's easy to pick a side. It's easy to name call. It's easy to make an inflammatory remark...
And even if you don't say anything?
Inside your head, you're thinking about what you could say to that person, or article, or business that you do not agree with.
And THAT steals your mindshare that could be filled with other things that can grow you as a person.
I allow myself less than 10 minutes a day to scroll through social media. I do this because I realized, 90% of the time when I'm done, I feel worse mentally than before I got on the platform. It feeds the darkness, and not the light.
I personally have lenses/filters that I view the world from. What about you?
One of mine, is what Dr King talked about. What are you doing for others? Doesn't matter their age, race, sex, or preference.
My lens/filter is this: "What am I doing today to be kind to others?"
When I feel myself getting drawn into the darkness, I use this lens to push myself back towards the light by paying someone a compliment, by giving a smile, by opening a door, by randomly paying for a meal for a stranger.
All those little things add up. And if a bunch of people are doing little things, you can make this world a better place, just like Dr King spoke about.
I understand the world is a complicated place. I also understand the value of kindness.
At Lifeboost? We believe a better world simply starts with that.
I hope your New Year brings you happiness, joy, and health!
