Honesty.
Today is National Honesty Day and while most will take it to mean, Be honest with others (as you should), I want you to think about it from another standpoint.
Be honest with YOURSELF.
Think about that for a second.
Are you?
If you’re anything like me, you’re a great justifier of the decisions you make. ESPECIALLY when you are stressed.
When life gets hard, our brain gets extra creative about finding reasons to do whatever feels good RIGHT NOW.
Here's what that sounds like:
The nightly glass of wine
"I need something to take the edge off. After the day I had, I deserve to unwind. It's cheaper than therapy."
Scrolling for hours
"My brain is fried. I can't do anything productive right now anyway. I just need to zone out for a bit."
Stress eating
"I can't deal with being hungry on top of everything else. I'll eat better once things calm down."
Canceling plans...AGAIN
"I just don't have the energy to be around people right now. They'll understand. Taking care of myself has to come first."
Skipping the workout
"I'm already stressed. Adding more stress to my body isn't going to help. I'll get back to it when life settles down."
The online shopping
"I've had such a hard week. A little treat isn't going to break the bank. I need something to look forward to."
Staying up way too late
"This is the only time that feels like mine. If I go to bed now, my whole day was just work and stress."
Letting chores pile up
"I'm running on empty. I can't do one more thing today. The dishes can wait."
Hitting snooze five times
"I barely slept because I was so stressed. My body clearly needs more rest. Starting the day exhausted won't help anyone."
Any of these sound familiar?
Either you’ve done them yourself, or you know someone that has.
Here's what's sneaky about excuses or these type of justifications: they're half true.
You really ARE tired. Life really IS hard right now. You really DO deserve a break.
Here’s why I wanted to point this out today...
"I deserve this" quietly turns into "I need this," and before long, the thing that was supposed to help you cope is actually making everything harder.
The wine makes you sleep worse. The scrolling makes you feel behind. Canceling plans makes you lonelier.
The question worth asking:
Is this actually helping me handle the stress, or is it just helping me avoid it for an hour?
Asking that question?
That’s being honest with yourself which leads to being transparent with WHY you are doing something.
Someone once told me, that once you make a decision, OWN that decision and be responsible for it.
This little filter CONSTANTLY runs in the back of my mind.
For instance: I’m dieting to go to the beach, and my friend brings me over a slice of ice cream cake from the Dairy Queen with chocolate cookie crumbles (This was my favorite type of birthday cake that my grandma would get me for my birthday when I was a kid)
I CHOSE to eat it. I did not look back, I did not pass go, I did not collect 200 dollars. I was 100% in and I KNOW that this would set me back.
WHY did I make a "bad" choice?
I CHOSE it because I wanted it. It emotionally connected me to my childhood. Nothing to do with stress. I understood the consequences of my actions and I would not let it derail all the work I'd done the past few weeks.
My next thought was… Where can I make up for this extreme amount of calories, fat and sugar today? I ended up drinking essential amino acids (EAAs) that night. This is a protein drink that is amazing for you. (A different topic for a different day.)
The point is, I looked for a way to mitigate the damage done by my choice. Will this always work? No. But, brainstorming ways that can keep you somewhat on track is a great thought exercise.
This helps you to MOVE FORWARD. Don't give up because you derailed yourself. You don't have to start completely over in a situation like this. YOU have control. Choose to MOVE FORWARD.
Don’t want to do your workout today? Maybe just take a walk. You’d be surprised at how effective a nice walk by yourself is. (Or with others)
My final question to myself was this: Is this a pattern that happens a lot that will derail me from hitting my goals in the future? The answer was no.
I find that when you make decisions in life, big or small, it’s important to think through what is called the second and third order effects. In this case, I wanted to be sure, that I wasn’t creating a habit instead of a one off decision to indulge.
To put this all together:
Honesty gives way to transparency and transparency leads to clarity. Clarity leads you to hitting your goals and getting the most out of life.
That’s why I focus on being honest with myself. My goal is to live as long as I can, as healthy as I can so that I can enjoy the most that I can while helping others do the same.
HOPEFULLY, this was helpful to you :-)
I’ll leave you with this quote that I think about often:
“Watch your thoughts, they become your words; watch your words, they become your actions; watch your actions, they become your habits; watch your habits, they become your character; watch your character, it becomes your destiny.”
― Lao Tzu
What’s going on at Lifeboost?
We’ve had quite a few inquiries over the past couple years about one of our products we discontinued… Inflamega. It was an Omega 3 fish oil. Do you remember it?
Kind of stuck out because, well, it’s not coffee.
The reason we started selling it?
I try to maximize health benefits with the least amount of work possible.
Why fish oil? Because it was too gross to add to coffee, lol. Fish oil coffee. Don’t think we’d have any buyers.
BUT… it’s something that I take daily and I would feel weird being a doctor, and promoting our cognition and mind flow lines of coffee and not mentioning the #1 supplement most should take to support their brain and nervous system.
Your brain is roughly 60% fat by dry weight, and omega-3 fatty acids (especially DHA) make up a big, important part of that.
Omega-3s aren’t just “good for” your brain—they’re literally one of the main building blocks inside it!
1. They build and fix the “walls” of your brain cells
- Your brain cells (neurons) have thin, flexible outer walls called membranes. Omega-3s (especially DHA) slide right into these walls and make them bendy and strong—like turning stiff cardboard into stretchy rubber.
- This lets messages zip between brain cells super fast. Without enough omega-3s, the walls get stiff, and thinking, learning, and remembering slow down.
2. They help your brain “talk” better
- Omega-3s help your brain make important chemicals (neurotransmitters) that control mood, focus, and memory—like serotonin (the “happy” one) and others for learning.
- They also reduce “brain fog” and support better attention and problem-solving. Studies show kids and adults with higher omega-3 levels often do better on memory and focus tests.
3. They calm down inflammation (the body’s “fire alarm”)
- Your body sometimes gets low-level swelling (inflammation) in the brain or elsewhere from stress, junk food, or aging. Too much inflammation is like a slow fire that can damage cells.
- Omega-3s act like firefighters—they turn down that inflammation, protecting brain cells and helping prevent issues like memory decline later in life.
4. They support your whole body, not just the brain
- Heart: They keep blood vessels flexible and help lower unhealthy fats (triglycerides) in your blood.
- Eyes: DHA is also a huge part of your retina (the back of your eye), so omega-3s help with sharp vision.
- Joints and immune system: They ease everyday aches and keep your body’s defense system balanced.
- Mood and energy: Many people notice steadier moods and less “blah” feelings when they get enough.
Bottom line: Your brain is basically a fat-powered super-computer, and omega-3s are the special “smart fat” it needs to stay quick, happy, and healthy.
You can’t make these fats yourself, so you have to eat them (fatty fish, grass fed beef, or a good fish-oil/krill/algae supplement).
Most experts say 250–2,000 mg of EPA + DHA per day (depending on your age and goals) can make a real difference, but check with a doctor first.
After doing research, I settled on the clinical dosage of 600mg of EPA+DHA daily.
ALLLL this to say, I’ve decided to bring back Omega 3. It’s a simpler formulation that has 600mg of EPA + DHA in it. And I’m happy to report that it hasn’t given me any fish burps!
Our new formulation is called DEEPFLOW - named after the building blocks for your body that comes from the depths of the ocean. You should see it in about 6-8 weeks.
I’ve been taking it for the past 2 months and love it! Can’t wait for you to try it.
Our new Nespresso compatible pods are out and it looks like people are really enjoying them!
Last month I mentioned how we created a new style of product page in our store and how excited I was about. It’s doing good, except, I think there is a part that is confusing some customers.
We were trying out a new format and there seems to be an issue with picking out the correct roast.
Make sure to double check your order before you press the checkout button!
We’ll be fixing the confusing part of the webpage in the meantime :-)
