Editor's Take
So here's the thing about Madam Sew-they're basically what happens when two brothers decide their grandmothers deserve better sewing tools. Founded in March 2017 by brothers Mark and Richard Fiers, both of their grandmothers are avid sewers, and while looking for sewing-related presents for them online, they found that there were a lot of handy tools available that a lot of people didn't know about.
And honestly? That's kind of brilliant. Because if you've ever tried to find decent sewing supplies online, you know it's either overpriced craft store basics or sketchy Amazon knockoffs that'll break after three uses. Madam Sew became an online-only store that offers carefully selected sewing tools intended to make sewing easier and more fun, with Richard, a former teacher, immediately adopting a focus on providing in-depth instructions with the tools sold in the webstore, along with top-notch customer service.
The company hit that sweet spot pretty quickly. The store was an instant hit, and MadamSew rapidly grew to a company with more than 10 employees and inventory in 2 warehouses (main warehouse being in North Carolina). But here's what I find interesting-they didn't just stay in the "curated tools" lane. Based on customer input, they soon began to develop their own products, with the ultimate presser foot set and the heat erasable fabric marking pens being the first to be introduced in their shop, and ever since, their product development team has been working hard to bring nifty new sewing tools to the shop.
Notice how they're not trying to be everything to everyone? They've got this laser focus on making sewing less frustrating. At Madam Sew you find sewing supplies and notions to make your sewing and quilting life a bit easier and a lot more fun-presser feet, tools, storage solutions. It's like they actually understand that most people don't want to spend three hours fighting with their sewing machine just to hem a pair of pants.
The community aspect is pretty solid too. MadamSew.com has grown to be more than just a store-they are also a community where people can get inspired by, and interact with like-minded people, with customers sharing inspiration, successes, and challenges with fellow sewing enthusiasts on their Facebook groups, Instagram, and Twitter, while the MadamSew team contributes to the community through blog posts, tutorial videos, and comprehensive manuals.
What really stands out is their customer service reputation. The reviews are consistently glowing about how quickly they respond and how helpful they are. One customer noted: "You have wonderful customer service. I had a question with me order and I was surprised at how quickly I got a response. I will for sure recommending you to my sewing friends." That's the kind of thing that keeps people coming back, especially in a hobby where getting stuck on a technique can kill your motivation entirely.
