Making History
Friday, April 26, 2–3 pm
The Met Fifth Avenue

Join us for a series of lectures exploring the evolution of history painting. Track its origins in early modern Europe, when the past was used to frame the present, to its role today, as contemporary artists from Kerry James Marshall to Nicole Eisenman and Kent Monkman variously reframe old histories and picture history as it is being made.

In this talk, explore the many facets of history painting, long considered the pinnacle of Western art, from Raphael's celebration of the classical world in the School of Athens to The Met's iconic image of Washington crossing the Delaware.

Free with Museum admission, though advance registration is required. Note: Space is limited; first come, first served.
