Did you know?
New Galleries
With five works in our collection, The Met holds more paintings by Johannes Vermeer than any other museum in the world. By most counts, there are only 34 surviving canvases by the esteemed Dutch painter.

Together, these works trace Vermeer’s artistic development—from his early explorations to the refined mastery of his later years. They highlight the range of his subjects, from solitary figures caught in quiet moments to richly layered narrative scenes. All five works are currently on view in Gallery 614 on the second floor at The Met Fifth Avenue.

The Met Cloisters
Sweeping Views
Wander through stone arches and secret gardens to discover centuries-old art without leaving the city. Located in Fort Tryon Park in Upper Manhattan, The Met Cloisters is New York City’s most magical day trip.

Devoted to the art, architecture, and gardens of medieval Europe, The Met Cloisters brings the Middle Ages to life with reconstructed cloisters, chapels, and halls filled with manuscripts, sculptures, tapestries, and metalwork. Its gardens feature plants used in the Middle Ages for medicinal, artistic, and even magical purposes.
