A Celebration—Día de Muertos at The Met Cloisters
Sunday, October 12, 11 am–4 pm

Join us for a vibrant day of bilingual activities to celebrate Día de Muertos, a day of remembrance honoring loved ones who have passed away. Enjoy art making, Storytime, music, community storytelling, The Met Cloisters gardens, and more! For all ages.

Presented in celebration of Hispanic/Latine Heritage Month.

Free with Museum admission; admission is pay what you wish for New York state residents, and free for children 12 and under with an adult, and a caregiver accompanying a visitor with a disability. Note: Space is limited; first come, first served.

Long Films for Long Nights: The Curse of the Cat People
Friday, October 10, 6–8:30 pm

Join us for a screening and discussion of The Curse of the Cat People, produced by horror film pioneer Val Lewton. A wishing ring, a ghost, the Legend of Sleepy Hollow, and an Eastern European dynasty of shape shifters feature in this 1944 psychological thriller set in an abandoned house. Lewton—who also produced the first film in the series, Cat People (1942), directed by Jacques Tourneur—incorporated elements of his own childhood into the narrative.

Rubin Museum Distinguished Lecture in Himalayan Art—A Forgotten Milestone in Tibetan Art: The Murals of Gyantse Dzong's Temple
Friday, October 17, 6–7 pm

Built in 1390, the temple of Samphel Rinpoche Ling at Gyantse in Central Tibet was erected as the private chapel of the Princes of Gyantse. It preserves a remarkable series of contemporary murals rich in detailed iconographic programs. Join us to explore these rare survivors of late 14th-century painting, featuring a variety of Newar and Chinese-influenced styles, and discover new insights into 14th–15th century Tibetan painting history.

The Rubin Museum Distinguished Lecture in Himalayan Art is an annual lecture that features recognized expert insights into the greater Himalayan region's art, cultures, and history, fostering deeper connections with these rich traditions.

Join artist Ana De Obregoso for an interactive art-making activity inspired by the Museum's collection of Moche portrait vessels on view in the Arts of the Ancient Americas galleries. Make your own self-portrait collage and discover the contemporary significance of traditional Peruvian ceramics.

Presented in celebration of Hispanic/Latine Heritage Month and the reopening of The Michael C. Rockefeller Wing, featuring the Museum's collections of the arts of Africa, the ancient Americas, and Oceania.
