Windlass tourniquets use a strap and tightening rod to apply pressure. They’re widely recognized, commonly used in emergency response, and designed to be tightened by twisting the rod until proper pressure is achieved.

Elastic Tourniquets

Elastic tourniquets use stretch, wrap, and tension to help control severe bleeding. Designs like the RATS are compact, easy to carry, and built to wrap tightly around the limb before being secured in place.
