Hi Sabah People: With our second season of Sabah Sandals upon us, we're here to refresh you on what makes our Lido (Italian for 'beach') and Porto (Italian for 'Port') so special.
Every pair is made by hand in a small workshop in Tavullia, Italy — just an hour's drive from where we make our boots. This is no ordinary workshop: deeply artisanal in its methods, producing sandals that are as beautiful as they are exceptionally comfortable. | | The result is something special. Our Lido & Porto Sandals are unbelievably comfortable & supportive. They have an aesthetic that's chic & artisanal, clearly hand-wrought. And they're going to last a long, long time thanks to the handmade construction, use of 100% vegetable tanned Italian leathers, and sturdy rubber outsole.
I've traveled all over the world in my two pairs over the last year. I favor my Portos (fisherman-style) for longer days on my feet, be that criss-crossing Rome in search of the best Carbonara or hiking through the hills of a Mediterranean island to reach the perfect beach. My Lidos I favor for quick strolls to morning coffees, afternoons by the pool or at the beach, or dressed up with linen for a cocktail party. This note shares more images and details about the incredible craft behind our sandals. Enjoy! Sincerely, The Sabah Dealer -- | | Our sandals are crafted in Tavullia - a charming town nestled into the hills of Italy's Marche region. Not far from the Adriatic coast, it's quite literally where green hillside meets blue sea. | | Craft means hands, faces & names. I had the pleasure of visiting the shoemakers of Tavullia last year - a workshop full of talented men & women; smiling as they work. The atmosphere was uplifting! | | Our Porto & Lido Sandals both employ a slotted construction -- meaning the upper leather is slotted into the sole. This allows the shoes to really hug your feet, providing incredible support and meaning our Sandals will get more comfortable as they find the form of your feet with every step. | | One of the processes that sets our Lido & Porto Sandals apart is how they're dyed.
Originally made with undyed, veg tan leather -- every set of uppers is dip-dyed by hand. The result is a color that's rich, deep and, most importantly, allows the leather's characteristics to really shine. It's not your typical 'covered' or 'finished' leather. | | After being dyed, every set of uppers is then tumbled with pumice stones & water to soften the edges for maximum comfort, adding a hammered and burnished sheen giving the sandals an even more artisanal feel. It's truly a one-of-a-kind process that delivers a beautiful result. | | Backgammon Club is happening tomorrow night at Sabah House New York... 5 to 9pm with Spanish G&T's, Tapas, and Tunes by the talented Tyler Kpapko.
