A few simple cleaning steps can help keep your mattress fresher and more comfortable.

Step 2: Gather Your Cleaning Supplies

Prepare basic cleaning tools such as:

• Vacuum cleaner with upholstery attachment

• Mild detergent or enzyme cleaner

• Baking soda

• Spray bottle and clean cloths

You can also make a simple DIY cleaner using hydrogen peroxide, water, and a small amount of dish soap.

Step 3: Strip the Bedding

Remove sheets, pillowcases, and mattress protectors. Wash them in hot water if possible to eliminate dust mites and bacteria.

Step 4: Vacuum the Mattress

Vacuum the entire surface, seams, and edges thoroughly. This removes dust, hair, and dead skin.

Step 5: Spot Clean the Mattress

Do not scrub—always blot gently.

Here are quick tips for cleaning a mattress with what kinds of stain removers:

• Food & drinks: Use mild detergent, blot, then wipe with cold water

• Sweat stains: Spray cleaner, wait 30 minutes, then use baking soda to deodorize

• Urine/vomit: Blot immediately, clean with diluted detergent, then air dry

• Blood: Use cold water only and blot gently

• Mold: Light spots can be cleaned; heavy mold usually means replacement is safer

Step 6: Deodorize the mattress

Sprinkle baking soda over the entire mattress. Leave it for several hours (up to 24 hours for best results). This helps absorb odors and moisture.

Step 7: Vacuum Again

Remove all baking soda and vacuum thoroughly, including seams and edges.

Step 8: Flip the Mattress and Repeat

Flip the mattress and repeat cleaning steps if your mattress is double-sided. Rotating every 2–3 months can also help prevent sagging.
