Returns
What is the return window?
Trek offers a 30-day return window for purchases from trekbikes.com. If you don't love your purchase and it's within 30 days of purchase, Trek will take it back without any additional charges or hassle. Think of it as a 30-day test ride.
Are there any items that are non-returnable?
For all batteries sold and shipped separately from a bike, you must return the battery to your nearest Trek retailer. Certain e-bike models including Fetch+ 2, Fetch+ 4, Allant+, Loft, and Ponto Go! are excluded from free return shipping, though it is always free to return your bike to your local Trek retailer.
How will I receive my refund?
If a refund is initiated, the refunded amount will be credited to the original payment method used at the time of purchase. Refund credits usually appear on your account within 10 days, but may take up to 30 days depending on your bank.
Can I return online purchases in-store?
Yes, you can make any parts and accessories returns at your local Trek retailer. If your bike was assembled or ridden and you received it directly to your home from trekbikes.com, you can disassemble the bike and repackage it in the box it came in, then use the return label provided with the bike to return it.
Who pays for return shipping?
With few exclusions, returning your bike is free. Trek wants you to love your purchase, so they want returns to be easy. If your bike was never taken out of the box, please use the return label that came with the bike.

Here's the thing about Trek Bicycle - they're not just making bikes. They're kind of obsessed with them. And when I say obsessed, I mean the good kind, the kind where a company that started in a red barn in Waterloo, Wisconsin back in 1976 has grown into a global powerhouse without losing that original spark.
So Trek's got this interesting origin story. Two guys, Dick Burke and Bevil Hogg, decided they wanted to build the best bikes the world had ever seen. Pretty bold claim for a barn operation, right? But here's where it gets interesting - they actually pulled it off. That first year, they hand-brazed nearly 900 custom framesets, each selling for under $200. Fast forward to today, and Trek's bikes are everywhere, sold through 1,700 independent shops across North America alone, plus distributors in 90 countries worldwide.
But what really sets Trek apart isn't just the bikes themselves - though those OCLV Carbon frames are legitimately impressive, weighing in at just 2.44 pounds for the 5500 frame when it launched. It's how they think about the whole cycling ecosystem. They pioneered the hybrid bike category back in 1990 with their MultiTracks line, basically asking "why can't we combine mountain bike comfort with road bike speed?" Seems obvious now, but someone had to do it first.
And Trek's not sitting still. They're constantly pushing boundaries, from their proprietary carbon fiber manufacturing process (OCLV stands for "Optimum Compaction, Low Void" - yeah, they're nerdy about it) to their commitment to sustainability. They've actually changed how they make bikes to reduce their carbon footprint, which is refreshing in an industry that could easily coast on "bikes are already eco-friendly" messaging.
The company culture's worth mentioning too. Trek made Fortune Magazine's 2024 list of Top 100 Best Places to Work, and 89% of employees say it's a great place to work compared to 59% at typical US companies. They offer employee stock ownership, match 401k contributions up to 6%, and even built 18 miles of private mountain bike trails at their Waterloo headquarters for lunch rides. Because of course they did.
What's really cool is how Trek balances being a serious manufacturer with maintaining that enthusiast vibe. They sponsor professional cycling teams, run the Trek 100 charity ride that raised $1 million for childhood cancer research in 2023, and still operate that original headquarters in small-town Waterloo - population small enough that there's literally one four-way stop sign in town.
Whether you're looking at their entry-level kids' bikes or their high-end Project One custom builds (some pushing $15,000), there's this consistent thread of innovation and genuine passion for cycling. They're not just selling bikes - they're trying to get more people on bikes, period. And in a world that could use more simple solutions to complex problems, that mission feels pretty relevant.
