Spending more time in Connecticut lately has reminded me how grounding it feels to reconnect with nature—and to get back to basics. From natural skincare to farm-fresh produce, I’ve been finding so much joy in nurturing my body, mind, and family with what’s simple and good. Here are a few of my current favorites that are all about slowing down and returning to what feels real.
I’ve always designed my skincare as rituals rooted in nature. Both formulas in this duo are made from skin-loving ingredients like probiotics from responsibly-sourced birch sap (a skincare secret in France!). You probably already know my obsession with Boum-Boum Milk—but when I created Balm Amour, made with phyto-collagen and natural peptides, I finally felt like my face and lips were covered for back-to-nature care. Together, they feel like a love story for your skin—nourishing, comforting, and kind.
Aisling Camps is a New York–based designer whose take on sustainability is truly inspiring. She turns handspun yarn into wearable art—her chic crochet pieces feel both architectural and sensual. Her Brooklyn studio sources yarns locally or from a family-run factory in Italy that’s been making knits for three generations. It’s craftsmanship at its most thoughtful.
When you’re a parent of toddlers, the first thing to go is leisure time—especially reading! With the kids back in school, I’m finally carving out a little space to pick up a few books again. I’ve heard great things about Gods of New York (thank you, Jessica Matlin, for the rec!) and there’s a new Jane Birkin biography, It Girl, that I want to dive into. I’d love to know what you all are reading right now—please share.
…And what better way to curl up with a good book than by lighting a candle? It’s a tiny ritual that instantly shifts the mood. Cire Trudon is one of my favorites—this Parisian brand has been around since the 1600s. Their burn time, scent throw, and quality are well worth the price. I’m drawn to their warm, earthy scents—woods, tobacco, patchouli, sandalwood, herbs. Try Abd El Kader, Ernesto, Solis Rex, or Cire if you love that mood too.
One of the biggest joys of spending more time outside the city has been exploring all the local farm stands. Many work on an honor system—you pick your veggies and eggs, leave your cash, and that’s it. I love that sense of community and trust. A few favorite spots close to the city are Fort Hill Farm, Happy Acres, and Calf and Clover. It’s such a beautiful way to feed your family well while supporting local growers. And if you don’t live in the New York area, check out your neighborhood farmers market—it’s always more joyful than the grocery store.
