It’s so crazy to think that nearly five years ago, I was tucked away in an RV with a handful of Bisou Balm prototypes and this vision I couldn’t shake: an effortless take on the classic ‘Bouche Mordue’ look. It’s the second most iconic lip in France after the bold matte red—‘Bouche Mordue’ is soft, blurred, like you’ve just been kissed. But I could never find a formula that recreated it naturally. So… I started making my own.
| | Like all my formulas, I only create them if nothing like it exists—and Bisou Balm really didn’t. I wanted a lipstick that looked like a kiss of color, didn’t dry you out, and gave that blurred, just-bitten effect with no effort at all. I developed the first shade, Bêtise, as a love letter to my natural lip color—just a bit warmer and richer. From there came others, like Calisson, a tender neutral I love to wear alone or layered under other formulas, and Amour Fou, a sheer, “best friend” version of our Petal Bouche couture red. Each shade took time, testing, and a lot of stained napkins—nothing left the lab until it felt just right.
| | Honestly, I had no idea how much love this formula would get. Seeing all of you wear it in your own way has been so special. Bisou Balm quickly became our bestselling formula, and that means so much to me—especially because it started as such a personal project. It’s like bringing a little piece of my culture to each of you. We now have nine universal shades, each with its own story and intention. I’d love to hear from you—what color should we create next? Avec Amour, Violette
